The Euros would like to extend its congratulations to the Greek youth media project « Europe on the Ground” which won first prize at the 2012 Charlemagne Youth Prize ceremony. Second went to the Czech Republic’s »Europe Meets School« and Hungary’s »Cycle Me Home" was placed third. The Prize is awarded annually to projects undertaken by young people that foster understanding, promote the development of a shared sense of European identity, and offer practical examples of Europeans living together as one community .
“Europe on the ground” sends over 50 young journalists and amateur photographers from all over Europe to ten different European capitals every year. From their position “on the ground”, they then have four days to write an article or produce a collection of photographs reflecting on European culture and society. These are then edited by professional journalists and published online by the European magazine www.cafebabel.com.
